Crime & Punishment at the DNC

Sat May 31, 2008 at 10:12:17 AM PDT

There is a saying that "no news is bad news." But this saying, however, has exceptions. And most of these exceptions relate to the Democratic Party. Today's DNC meeting is making news and, in my opinion, it is making bad news for not only our party, but our country.

I, like many of you, staunchly support Barack Obama. I think he is the best nominee to lead our party to victory in November. I think he would be great for our country and our world. But somewhere, probably not on this blog, there is someone who disagrees with me. This person believes that Hillary Clinton is the answer and that anyone but her spells disaster for our party and our country. This is the state of our party and it has been this was for quite some time now.

What is happening today is, regardless of whether you like Obama or Clinton, is bad for our party. We look like idiots. We look disorganized. And, most importantly, whichever candidates' argument wins today will likely infuriate the loser and his/her supporters.

Simply put, Michigan and Florida broke the rules and they were punished for that. Even a young child can understand the notion of action and consequence. Why is it, then, that these two states cannot?

There should be no compromise.

In Michigan, Obama was not even on the ballot. In either state, he didn't even campaign. How on Earth can you possibly say, with a straight face, that the results should stand?

No self-respecting Democrat from either Michigan or Florida will vote against the Democratic nominee simply because their primary votes did not count. If they are that childish, then they do not deserve to have a Democratic president.

Barack Obama has won the Democratic nomination. This thing is over. Today's circus only furthers our reputation as a disorganized party.
